The US Must Suppress Sharia Law to Uphold Freedom of Religion

By Tawfik Hamid

A popular new law that bars Oklahoma courts from considering Islamic law, or Shariah, when deciding cases was put on hold Monday after a prominent Muslim in the state won a temporary restraining order in federal court. This ruling was issued in the name of freedom of religion and minority rights.

U.S. District Court Judge Vicki Miles-LeGrange ruled that the measure, which passed by a large margin in last Tuesday’s elections, would be suspended until a hearing on Nov. 22, when she will listen to arguments on whether the court’s temporary injunction should become permanent.

“Today’s ruling is a reminder of the strength of our nation’s legal system and the protections it grants to religious minorities,” said Muneer Awad, executive director of Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Oklahoma, who filed the suit last Thursday, claiming the law violated his constitutional rights.

“We are humbled by this opportunity to show our fellow Oklahomans that Muslims are their neighbors and that we are committed to upholding the U.S. Constitution and promoting the benefits of a pluralistic society,” Awad said.

Awad’s statement blatantly misrepresents the realities of Sharia law.

Sharia Law advocates the opposite of freedom of religion and minority rights.  For instance, one of the fundamental principles of Sharia Law is that Muslims who leave Islam, i.e., apostates, should be killed. Allowing Sharia Law to pertain in US courts completely ignores the rights of the Muslim apostate minority and in so doing endangers their lives.

Imagine that a Muslim apostate was in the court room in the US.  If an Islamic Mullah insisted that Shariah law mandates that this apostate be killed, would the judge allow this ruling of Sharia Law? If the judge stopped the killing process, according to the ruling by US District Court Judge Miles-LeGrange, the judge would be limiting the religious freedom of the Mullah.  The judge must suppress the “religious freedom” of the Mulla in order to give the apostate his constitutional rights to freedom of religious beliefs.  It is impossible to have it both ways: the man will live if the Constitution is regarded as the law, or he will die if Sharia is allowed to overrule the Constitution.

The US courts MUST draw a clear line between parts of acceptable parts of Sharia that are considered personal issues, which are usually not debatable in court rooms, such as washing before prayers and those foundational and fundamental parts of Sharia that promotes violence, discrimination, and gender inequality. These Sharia rules include killing apostates, beating women, stoning of women for adultery, killing homosexuals, accepting slavery, and inequality in inheritance between a man and a woman.

Some may argue that Sharia can be accepted in US courts as there are many interpretations of Sharia Law. This naïve approach ignores the fact that differences in Sharia interpretations are not about the acceptability of violent edicts but rather about details of their implementation. For example, the four main schools of Jurisprudence in Islam are Shafii, Maleki, Hanbali, and Hanafi.  Without exception, including in contemporary times, none of these schools of Islamic jurisprudence have ever condemned the punishment of stoning.  The views of the four schools of jurisprudence differ only with regard to insignificant issues such as the size of the stones that must be used.

Those who promote the acceptance of Sharia Law in the US need to realize that, not one single approved Sharia Law book clearly rejects the Redda Law (Killing of Muslims who convert to other faith or deny a fundamental part of the religion).  Islamic Sharia texts rejecting this inhumane practice does not now exist, and has never existed. The Redda Law is still taught as fundamental part of Sharia, practiced by radical Islamic groups, and is considered the law of the land in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Others may argue that Sharia in the US should be allowed only to influence American courts with regard to regulation of family matters.  While this arena may sound innocent, the family practices that Sharia allows and even encourages include beating women, polygamy, and forcing underage girls to marry older men.   Women and girls within Islam need American laws to protect them from the injustices of Sharia.

In short, it is impossible to uphold the US constitution and Sharia Law at the same time.  It is impossible to accommodate both systems together because the one protects freedom and equality of humans and the second advocates violence and domination.

islam is dangerous no matter how it is packaged. muslims do not assimilate into western society because islam is a theocracy and demands supremacy.

the twin fogs of political correctness & ignorance must be dispersed before western society better understands this menace. even a brief review of islamic theology & history quickly exposes the deadly roots of this evil ideology.

see the links in the pdf version below for more accurate info about islam

islam is a horrible ideology for human rights

    5 key things about islam

    1. mythical beliefs – all religions have these (faith) because its part of being a religion: having beliefs without proof until after the believer dies. the problem is people will believe almost anything.

    2. totalitarianism – islam has no seperation of church and state: sharia law governs all. there is no free will in islam: only submission to the will of allah as conveniently determined by the imams who spew vapors to feather their own nests. there are no moderate muslims: they all support sharia law.

    3. violence – islam leads the pack of all religions in violent tenets for their ideology & history: having eternal canonical imperatives for supremacy at all costs and calling for violence & intimidation as basic tools to achieve these goals.

    4. dishonesty – only islam has dishonesty as a fundamental tenet: this stems from allah speaking to mohamhead & abrogation in the koran which is used to explain how mo’s peaceful early life was superseded by his warlord role later.

    5. misogyny – present day islam is still rooted in 8th century social ethics: treating females as property of men good only for children, severely limiting their activities, dressing them in shower curtains and worse.

    conclusions ??

there really are NO redeeming qualities for this muddled pile of propaganda.

islam is just another fascist totalitarian ideology used by power hungry fanatics on yet another quest for worldwide domination and includes all the usual human rights abuses & suppression of freedoms.

All those who spread hate are grssloy myopic and part of the problem. The world cannot be a single religion planet. It was always and will always remain pluralistic with regard to religious and political beliefs. Those who demand the contrary are in error. Nature thrives in diversity. Whenever you have a monopoly, the results are disastrous irrespective of religion.Kings are not democratic. All humans are equal and no one has blue blood’. Nepal was the only Hindu kingdom and now it is a lovely and chaotic democracy. Pakistan was ruled by dictators for too long, not due to choice of its people. Now it has a flawed democracy that is evolving with all the cacaphony of noises that combine into the orchestra of democracy. Pakistan finally has free press to a large extent, a free judiciary and more institutions gradually coming in line with democratic requirements. It also has hardliners who were created due to political interventions in Afghanistan by USA, the West generally, Saudi, UAE, India and Pakistan. India is a large democracy but it too has a history of atrocities over Muslims in Kashmir. The recent ethnic cleansing mostly of Muslims in Bosnia Herzegovina. The situation in Aceh. The list goes on. The hardliners in Muslim areas utilize all such situations and convert these to their advantage by recruiting young children mostly through brain washing using hate and promising heaven. Mostly the poor fall for this and the problem continues to expand. The majority of the Muslims are moderate and too busy with earning their bread and living peaceful lives. They are also afraid to come out into the open to confront those hardliners. The moderates have no resourcs other than their work to earn their livelihoods. The hardliners have support from moneyed vested interests domestic as well as from other countries. Case in point is the relationship between Hamas and Iran. USA and elements in Afghanstan. Australia and Aceh. Too many examples all around. Then there are states ruled by dictators, kings, queens even democratically elected people such as in India where killing of Muslims was encouraged by a state minister who is still comfortably in power. The hardliners are those in every religion who are focused on creating hate, violence and insulting all other religions and trying to find allies within other religions who also have similar hate promoting agendas. These hardliners and their hate and violence creates terrorists everywhere whether born as Christians, Muslims, Hindus Jews or from any other religion. There are many examples from all these religions and I prefer to not to list or quote them because such listings create no love for each other. All such examples are horrific and detested.Let us face it, 14 million Jews cannot eradicate around 2 billion Muslims, or over 2 billion Christians cannot remove around 2 billion Muslims from the face of the earth or around 2 billion Muslims cannot erase around 1 billion Hindus from earth. We have no choice but to coexist. The best way is to promote interfaith harmony and not be distracted by the hate mongers amongst us.Harmony is possible if we do not insult each others religions or beliefs and show respect to their leaders. Casting insults will not create harmony but increase the divide. That is what is the problem in today’s world. The moderates need to get together from all religions and join forces so that reason, tolerance, moderation enables peaceful coexistence for our future generations. The moderates can be the solution while KGS and what such people represent are part of the problem. They create Breviks and Timmy McVeighs and all those Saudis who flew planes into buildings on 9/11 and also people with ugly mindsets who fire bullets and missiles from Gaza into Israel and from Israel into Gaza etc.Science does not exist as yet when a bullet can be told to kill only a Muslim or a Jew or a Christian etc. A bullet kills a human, who may be a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a husband, a wife etc. A bullets kills a small world occupied by a lot of people. This bullet must be stopped by the moderates through spread of love and respect for each others beliefs.
