Major Nadal Malik Hasan

Major Nadal Malik Hasan

None dare call what happened in Texas by its real name: Sudden Jihad Syndrome.

by Ebrahim Ashabi

Note: The author of this commentary is a 12-year veteran of the Long Beach Police Department. He was born in Iran as a Shiite Muslim and lived through the Iranian Islamic Revolution of 1978-79 and the Iran – Iraq war. He fled from Iran in 1982 and joined the Long Beach (Calif.) Police Department in 1997. He is currently a detective assigned to the Office of Counter Terrorism and is responsible for collecting, analyzing and investigating criminal intelligence related to international and domestic terrorism, organized crime, and extremist activities.

Once again, what has been dubbed by some Islamic experts as “Sudden Jihad Syndrome,” has manifested its ugly face, and this time it was at Fort Hood, Texas. U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire at the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood, killing 12 and injuring at least 31 of his fellow soldiers.

Almost immediately the authorities and the media, without hesitation and with no information from preliminary investigations, readily and unanimously offered a host of excuses to explain the cause of the shooter’s actions.

The excuses ranged from post-traumatic syndrome, to U.S. foreign policy, to several redeployment tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. The litany went on and on and on. However, none of them ever pointed a finger at the real reason for the killing spree.

Hasan reportedly conducted his executions meticulously, accurately, and callously. And I would argue that he does not suffer from any medical or physiological diseases. He does not suffer from post-traumatic syndrome (pre-traumatic syndrome), vicarious-traumatic syndrome, bipolar disorder, brief psychotic disorder, delirium, or any other mental issues. These are just explanations that so many officials continue to hope ring true so they can hang their hats on them, all the while ignoring the true cause of this murderous rampage. What Hasan suffers from is a syndrome identified only by those who embrace the truth instead of political correctness and do not worry about being labeled as Islamophobes, racists, bigots, or Muslim haters.

Rifqa Bary

Rifqa Bary

Today is the scheduled hearing in Ohio for young Rifqa Bary to determine her final status: if she will be returned to her parents, allowed to remain with foster parents until she turns 18, or possibly another arrangement.

If you have not been following her story, here is a quick recap. Four years ago, Rifqa became a Christian as a girl of 13 years of age. She successfully hid her religious conviction from her Muslim family until earlier this year, when her father discovered she had been reading the Bible. According to Rifqa’s testimony, her father threatened to kill her. She then fled to Florida to seek protection with a Christian minister she had been conversing with online. The family attorney successfully argued for her return to Ohio based on jurisdictional grounds and won.

Meanwhile, CAIR even got involved. When the Florida Department of Law Enforcement interviewed Rifqa’s parents, a representative of CAIR was present. Why? For intimidation? To pressure the FDLE for a favorable report? We will really never know. Nor will we really never have a complete understanding of what Rifqa’s parents may have said had CAIR not been present.

But the bottom line is that this young woman’s life is in danger. She has been threatened with death by her father, who is fully capable of carrying out that threat. Yet our law enforcement and media continue to downplay the threat, in spite of many similar stories that have surfaced over the past few years: Amina and Sarah Said, Aqsa Parvez, Sandeela Kanwal, Assiya Hassan, the Shafii family.

031408_afghanistan_800smThis past weekend Mr. Obama (I refuse to address him with the ‘P’ word since I believe he is illegitimate) made a very startling announcement. You probably missed it in the news.

Startling? Absolutely. Here is the gist of what he said.

We cannot send more troops into Afghanistan because we have no idea how to pay for them? (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/15/military-spending-weighs-obamas-afghan-decision/)

Did you get that?

For months, General Stanley McChrystal has been begging, even pleading, with the administration to send more troops into Afghanistan, because without them the current level of stability is untenable for the long term. Yet Obama’s concern is not with the situation in Afghanistan, or the morale of the troops which seems to be on the decline because of a lack of support back home (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/13/morale-troops-afghanistan-army-says/), but with how the US can continue funding the troop delpoyment.

I wish he was equally concerned how to repay the TARP (bailout) funds he so eagerly passed earlier this year. An herein is the irony. Further troop deployment is estimated to cost about 40 billion dollars a year to sustain the troop, and Obama is concerned where the money will come from. Yet he chose this year to throw 787 billion dollars away with no concern at all how it was going to be repaid.

What is wrong with this picture? Is Obama really concerned about the federal budget? If he is, his concern over funding troops is justified. But his actions to date indicate he has no concern at all over the budget.

I believe Obama does not want us in Afghanistan and is looking for a way out by citing the ongoing expense involved with maintaining troops in Afghanistan. Now, this is going to irritate some of my conservative friends, but I also agree with Obama on this issue. I think it is long past time to pull our troops out of the country. I don’t think we should ever have gone there, because there was no clear goal or objective to achieve. We cannot go to war if we have no way to measure what it means to ‘win the war’ and to do so requires defining the objective, so we can know when the objective has been achieved.

But Obama will never sell his objections to the American people if he bases them on financial concerns. We are not as blind and ignorant as he believes us to be. He has no concerns about financial obligations.

Mr. O, stop the lying and just be honest with us for once.
